Fall Cookbook: Slow Cooker Chili Con Carne With Parmesan Cornbread Recipe

Chili Con Carne is one of my favorite chili recipes ever and one that I love to cook often. In case you're wondering in Spanish the name means chili pepper with meat. You will find that most versions of chili con carne contain garlic, onions, chili peppers, cumin, ground beef and beans. In Texas it's almost a sin to put beans in chili but here we are going to add red kidney beans. Which are delicious in this wonderful version of the dish.

You never have to stick to a recipe if you want to change parts of it, as long as you know what will work and what will not. That, of course, comes with experience.



A suggestion for the leftovers is to add some of the shredded pork to your favorite Cheese Quesadillas recipe. It tastes great when served with a nice Tomato Basil Soup.

Putting my personal feelings aside, Nalley Big Chunk No Beans crockpot beef chili was a pretty tasty chili, and I liked that I didn't have to worry about any gas afterward. It has a good chili flavor, but is not at all spicy hot. The ground beef is almost minced, the texture is very fine, and there are no chunks of ground beef in this chili.

Plan nutritious meals in advance so that food is readily available. Have a cooking session where you prepare and freeze several portions of each meal so that dinner simply needs heating when required. Set the slow cooked chili in the morning so that a meal is ready for you upon arrival home.

Crock it up - There are tons of recipes online for crock addicts like me. Chicken, beef, pork ribs - the possibilities are endless! Sure, slow cooker chili take long to cook, but once you have all the ingredients in that crock pot, you are good to go. Leave it and forget about it. After you put on the timer, that is.

Cut and soften vegetables: Some vegetables (eg carrots, onions, potatoes) take longer to cook than meat. If the recipe combines any of these vegetables with meat, place the vegetables at the bottom of the cooker and then add the meat. Remember to thinly cut the vegetables according to the exact specifications of the recipe. It is recommended that you soften (brown, saute) vegetables (eg onions and carrots) before cooking: you will notice a whole lot of difference in both appearance and taste!

If you need your stew to thicken you may use a few of the all reason flour and place three tbsp inside a chili con carne casserole. Add a cup of drinking water and stir to sort a paste. Pour this paste into the gradual cooker.
